The Gardens of NoCo: Linda Mosley

I’m not quite to my winter breaking point, where I’m stir-crazy and ready to go anywhere with heat and sunshine. That usually comes in February. But I am counting the days until spring.
To help tide myself over, I like to look through my old garden photos. And while I was doing that today, I realized, holy cow, I’m sitting on a huge stack of amazing North County images!
As a field editor for around a dozen Better Homes & Gardens magazines, I’ve had the privilege over the years to scout some really beautiful locations, including a number of residences in North County. One of my favorites was the home of my friend Linda Mosley and her husband, Kim, where I discovered a sprawling woodland garden adorned with found treasures and Linda’s own captivating sculptures. Truly a magical place.
Before retiring to Austin in 2008, the Mosleys, both lifelong artists and educators, had lived in NoCo for many years, working at St. Louis Community College and contributing greatly to the local art community. These images, which I’m using to kick off my new Gardens of NoCo series, feature their gorgeous garden in June 2005. All of the pottery sculptures, including the innovative “lace” bodices, were hand made by Linda, in a studio not far from her herb garden. Enjoy!
Click any image and navigate with the arrows beneath it. To see more of Linda’s work, visit the NAC Gallery in Ferguson, which Linda had a big hand in opening.

As one of Fergusons Volunteer flower gardeners — appreciate the photos of the gardens…now is the time to dream of spring. Thanks!
Indeed, Renee! The snow is lovely but I can’t wait to get back in my garden. I also hope you’ll let me do a feature on the Volunteer Flower gardeners come spring. You guys do just amazing work!
Hey – we’d love the publicity — maybe it would bring a new volunteer or two
I just stumbled upon this site and I was so thrilled to see the familiar names of my favorite pottery and photo teachers!
I have walked through this beautiful garden and experienced the fantastic creations that Linda designed. Spring is too far away for me also, but remembering all the fantastic flowers, plants, sculptures and the serene koi fish pond at their home make me feel warm again. I had the privilege of house sitting for a week in their secluded home and it was truly one of the most gorgeous places of my North County. Thank you for this documentation. Show us more please.
THANK U SO MUCH FOR EVERY THING U DO!!!
I too have had the privilege of knowing the Mosley’s. I remember when they first started building the fish pond. It was truly a labor of love and it shows. ~K~
My wife and I and our three children have been blessed by being the new owners of the Mosely place. Since we moved here in late summer, I spent most of the fall figuring out how to maintain it all and have spent the winter planning for the spring (seeds have been ordered and should arrive any day!) I’m looking forward to a whole growing season here to see what comes up. Thank you, Linda and Kim for a wonderful place.
Mike, from what Linda tells me, we are very lucky to have you and your wife as NoCo residents now! I really hated to lose her and Kim but I’m glad we got some equally fun people in return!
The gardens are gorgeous. I bet you miss them. Only one thing to do. Create something comparable in Austin. Then I’ll have the pleasure of viewing them
. Thanx for the pix.
Hi, wonderful read. I just now stumbled on your site and I’m already a fan.
