Ferguson a finalist in 2010 All-America City competition

One of many reasons why Ferguson is an "All-America City" - my neighbor Larry Robinett and his tireless efforts at the Old Ferguson West Community Garden

I proudly reported this on NOCO’s Facebook page a couple weeks back but it bears repeating: my hometown of Ferguson is one of 24 finalists for the National Civic League’s 2010 All-America City Award!

For 61 years, NCL has been recognizing communities for their civic achievements, with each city required to describe three local projects that make them worthy of the prize. Ferguson submitted the Challenger Learning Center, the Plaza Heights crime reduction and code enforcement initiative, and our awesome community gardens in the Robert-Superior neighborhood and Old Ferguson West. Ferguson was one of only two finalists picked from Missouri.

Between now and the weekend of June 16-18, when the top ten cities are chosen for the award, Ferguson will be working on a 20-minute presentation that proves to the judges why our community deserves to win. The city is also gathering a large delegation of residents who can travel to the competition in Kansas City and show their support, hopefully sending at least one person from each neighborhood.

This is a huge honor for Ferguson, and I’m so rooting for us to win!! Judges will select the top ten cities based on their “innovation, inclusiveness, civic engagement, and cross-sector collaboration” in addressing pressing local challenges.
