Community Pools dive into the 2010 summer season

Hazelwood's White Birch Bay Water Park is open daily from noon to 7pm.

Let’s hope the sun is shining on May 29, because that’s the day when North County’s numerous municipal pools open for the 2010 season. If you’re looking to cool off and have some summer fun, NoCo has plenty of great aquatic parks to choose from, and these in particular are open to both residents and non-residents:

Hazelwood
Named one of the top ten water parks in St. Louis by Go! Magazine, Hazelwood’s $5.7 million White Birch Bay Aquatic Center opened in 2008 and has been wowing visitors ever since. Its 360-degree bubble slide from Sweden is the star attraction (and the first of its kind in the Midwest), but you can also take in two water slides, a lazy river, a giant water bucket, a water swirl with fast spinning action, a tot pool and a big ol’ regular pool with two diving boards.

$5-6 for residents, $10-12 for non-residents. 1186 Teson Road, 63042, (314) 731-0980. Open daily 12-7.

Ferguson
Small in size but big in personality, Ferguson’s Splash at Wabash offers something for everyone: a lazy river, two slides, diving boards, six lap lanes, a whirlpool and a kids’ water works play area. The perfect place to work on your tan!

$3.50 for residents, $6.50 for non-residents, with special discounts on Tuesday and after 4pm. 501 N. Florissant, 63135, (314) 521-1313. Open daily @1:15pm. Adults only swim noon-1pm.

Lots of cool open water at Florissant's Koch Pool

Florissant
With two outdoor pools to choose from, Florissant definitely shines in the summer. Bangert Pool is a low-frills classic, with only a few “water park” features and mostly open water. Nice for adults. Koch Park Family Aquatic Center also offers a large expanse of pool but with a few more slides, a lazy river and other fun amenities. A good place for kids to play and mom to relax!

$2-$3.50 for residents, $2-6 for non-residents. Bangert: 275 New Florissant Rd, 63031, (314) 839-7673, open daily 12:30-7:30. Koch: 305 Howdershell, 63031, (314) 839-7686, open daily 11:30-7:30.

Unincorporated North County
If all you want is a big, open pool, you will love the Olympic-size beauty at the North County Rec Center. Sprawling and simple, it offers plenty of room for everyone to splash around. And the pool is extra nice following the rec center’s recent remodel.

$3-4 general admission. 2577 Redman, 63136, (314) 615-8840. Open daily noon-6pm.

Bridgeton
A giant vortex and a 21-foot body flume make Bridgeton Crossing one of the area’s premier water parks. But you can also enjoy an infant splash pad, a drop slide, diving boards, lap lanes, a zero-depth entry leisure pool and something called a “powered activity channel.” I’m guessing a lazy river where you can also be active? Whatever the case, it sounds like fun!

$4-5 for residents, $6-8 for non-residents. 4201 Fee Fee, 63044, (314) 739-5535. Open daily for lap swimming & general admission. Look here for specific hours.

UPDATE: A broken water pipe has delayed the opening of Hazelwood’s White Birch Bay. Please call first to verify that the park is open: (314) 731-0980
