A Tale of Two Parades: July 4th in North County

If there’s one sure-fire way to boost community spirit, it’s a parade. Bright colors, creative floats, smiles all around… And this weekend in NoCo, we actually had double the fun!
Both Bridgeton and Ferguson held their annual parades on July 4th, each offering a little something special. If you hit the 1.5-mile noon parade in Ferguson, you got to enjoy four live bands, free pizza slices, a slew of politicians and some really fun floats.
Spanning more than two miles, the 1pm parade in Bridgeton was also a blast, featuring vintage military vehicles, free frisbees, horses, and I have to say, a much more inspiring theme: “Our Favorite Movie” vs. the somewhat generic “Ferguson Celebrates the American Flag.”
But hey, no complaints! I feel lucky that I got to celebrate the July 4th holiday in two different North County communities! In case you didn’t, here’s what you missed…

Due to a misunderstanding, my family didn’t arrive for the Ferguson parade until 1 p.m., when we thought it was to start. (Actually, still not sure why the scheduled it so early on a Sunday with church and all, but…) But we did enjoy the festivities at the Wabash. The P-D had a nice gallery of photos from the parade here: http://stltoday.mycapture.com/mycapture/folder.asp?event=1035605&CategoryID=17311
