The city of Louisville, Kentucky, commissioned 24 unique bike racks to help promote active living. What can Ferguson do?
If you’d like to see Ferguson become a more walkable and bikeable community, mark your calendar for July 8. That’s when the local nonprofit Trailnet is teaming with Live Well Ferguson to host its first public workshop, with a long-term goal of developing a walkable/bikeable master plan for Ferguson.
Topics of discussion will include bike lanes, speeding enforcement, traffic calming and sidewalk improvements. Trailnet experts will also explain how bikeable/walkable communities command higher real estate prices and support a healthier local economy.
All are welcome to attend. The workshop is Thursday, July 8, 6:30pm at Ferguson city hall, 110 Church, 63135.

I attended the event, after receiving an invitation from Gerry Noll, who is actively promoting bicycle transportation in Ferguson, and I found it useful. Ferguson doesn’t have any bike lanes at present, which is a nice thing about it, and I hope it stays that way. The streets are generally fine as they are but what is lacking is knowledge of safe cycling. That’s something I’ve been offering in Ferguson for the past thirteen years as a certified League of American Bicyclists Instructor. Whether you’re driving a car or a bike you need to practice defensive driving, develop bike handling skills and, especially for bicyclists, learn crash avoidance techniques. All these things are part of the courses I teach.
