423 Tiffin: one crazy cheap Ferguson Victorian

One more beautiful Ferguson home being sold for a song...on my block

Given the blood, sweat and tears I’ve put into my own house, I can’t imagine someone simply packing up and abandoning their home. But that’s what thousands of Americans are doing these days, faced with rising debts and declining property values. In 2009, nearly one-third of those who faced foreclosure simply walked away. I know, because two of them used to live across the street from me. Now I have two abandoned houses putting a serious kink in my otherwise awesome block.

One of them – 423 Tiffin – is actively on the market, and man, it is worth WAY more than $32,400! (Thanks a lot, HUD.) A classic 1904 Old Ferguson West farmhouse with 1700 square feet, it has three bedrooms, two baths and a two-car garage, and it’s located within walking distance of both Mueller Farm (EarthDance) and the Ferguson Farmers Market. Also all the Citywalk restaurants.

I’ve been inside and I can tell you that some major updating is definitely in order, especially in the kitchen, but holy cow, the front room is gorgeous! Beautiful fireplace, great staircase…wow! And did I mention how fabulous the neighbors are??

If you have any interest in this awesome bargain listing, you better act fast. Let me know and I’ll even give you a tour of the neighborhood!

OMG that is amazing! If we didn’t love our house so much I would snatch that up in a minute.

Wow-so much potential! Hope someone who really appreciates older homes finds it soon!

  3. I sent this to all of our farmies, and one of them said she and her husband are going to try to go look at it tonight! :D
She homeschools her 4 kids with #5 is on the way (on top of working with us at EarthDance, at Mueller Farm)! They’d be such amazing neighbors and would be fabulous Ferguson residents!

A forward thinking town– off the grid of “good schools”, might consider putting together some kind of homeschool community center in one of their empty storefronts where non-residents pay and residents of 18mos get in free. This creates incentive for homeschool families to move into the town and into the foreclosures. It would have to be a creative center worthy of attracting families and have volunteers who teach sewing, painting, history walks, etc.
