Ferguson StreetFest returns on September 24-25

A lively mix of entertainers and musicians will likely draw large crowds at Ferguson StreetFest on September 24-25

If you’ve ever attended Ferguson’s annual StreetFest, you should know that every year it’s a little bit different. Depending on who’s in charge, you’ll probably find different performers from one festival to the next, or even a whole new slate of fun activities. You might even see some attractions, like the carnival, disappear altogether. But two things always remain constant: good music and cold beer.

Of course, some people say there will never be a StreetFest as good as the one with Head East, the 70s classic rock band, but I think what’s great about the festival is its diversity, and the fact that you never really know what to expect. I was involved in organizing StreetFest for several years, and I’m proud to say that at least one of my ideas – the Manly Man High Heel Race – has become an annual tradition. But at the same time, I can’t wait to see what new ideas have been cooked up this year!

My neighbor Peter Carson has booked all of the entertainment, and that’s significant because Peter is a Grammy Award-winning music producer and manager!! He has graciously donated his time to the StreetFest committee, and I know he’s worked very hard to pull together an awesome event. Here’s a peek at what Peter, Mary Haux and the rest of StreetFest 2010 crew have planned for September 24 & 25:

Friday, September 24

5-7pm     Hollywood Five – a local cover band that plays at some of St. Louis’ top clubs and casinos

7-9pm     Steve Scorfina, the founding guitarist of REO Speedwagon and Pavlov’s Dog, who was profiled in a previous NOCO article

9-11pm – Houses of the Holy – one supremely rockin’ Led Zeppelin tribute band – not to be missed!

Saturday, September 25

1-3pm     Fanfare with Kittie Moller – a classic party/cover band that’s sure to make you dance

3-5pm     Trixie Delight – another groovin’ local cover band with a great female lead

5-7pm     Javier Mendoza – this Spanish-born guitarist is so popular around town, he hardly needs an introduction

7-9pm     Anthony Gomes Blues Band – sweet licks and lots of soul, that’s what you’ll get from this talented musician who has played with everyone from Robert Plant to BB King

9-11pm     Fabulous Motown Revue – expect classic hits and a very crowded dance floor with this 16-piece band whose members have performed with the Four Tops, Aretha Franklin and many other Motown stars

Also at StreetFest 2010: kids’ entertainment from the City Museum, youth dancers, a motorcycle show, a washers tournament, a dunking booth showdown, home beer brewing demos, games, vendors and lots of great food. For a detailed schedule and/or more info about any of these attractions, visit the StreetFest website.

Ferguson StreetFest will be held September 24 & 25 @ 20 S. Florissant Road, 63135, in the heart of the Ferguson Citywalk district. Admission is free.
