Three special movie events coming to St. Louis Mills

With the advent of things like Netflix, Hulu and movies-on-demand, it has never been easier to enjoy Hollywood in your own home. Because of this, some say that movie theaters will soon be obsolete, but I disagree. For one, there’s something magical about sitting in that big dark room, allowing all of your worries to fade away for a couple hours. Also, you just can’t beat that enormous screen.
As large as home televisions are now, they still can’t compare to the immersive sensory experience that a movie theater delivers. And let’s face it, many films are just not the same on a TV: Avatar, Titanic, Star Wars, and yes, Beauty and the Beast.
I remember the first time I saw Beauty and the Beast at the old Cross Keys Cinema in 1991, and I was absolutely floored by the rich details and sheer vibrancy of the animation. I’ve watched the film several times since, always on a television, but that enchanting castle ballroom has never looked the same. In my opinion, this classic Disney gem deserves a big screen…and finally, after 19 years, it shall have one.
On September 29 and October 2, the Regal 18 theater at St. Louis Mills is hosting a special “sing-along” screening of Beauty and the Beast, with all sorts of extra features that you can read about below. During September, you can also see two other exclusive screenings there, which I’ll let the good folks at Fathom Events (the sponsor of all these films) describe:
Ladies & Gentlemen: The Rolling Stones Flashback to 1972
September 16, 7:30pm, $12.50
For one night only, fans of The Rolling Stones will get the concert experience of a lifetime with Ladies and Gentlemen, The Rolling Stones in cinemas nationwide, presented by Omniverse Vision, Eagle Rock Entertainment and NCM Fathom. This exclusive event will feature the re-mastered HD digital version of the band performing on one of their most legendary tours, captured from front row seats. There will be a special exclusive introduction by Mick Jagger, interviewed just this past summer at the famous London Dorchester Hotel. Other bonus features: tour rehearsal footage from Montreux and the 1972 Old Grey Whistle Test interview with Jagger! This spectacular rock extravaganza will hit theatres September 16 at 7:30 p.m. local time.
The Exorcist Extended Director’s Cut
September 30, 7pm, $12.50
“What an excellent day for an exorcism!” The scariest film of all time is coming back to the big screen for a special one-night event, courtesy of NCM Fathom and Warner Home Video. For the first time in ten years, The Exorcist will be in theatres along with never-before-seen on-set footage from the making of the film and interviews with director William Friedkin, writer William Peter Blatty and members of the original cast and crew. See the classic that still haunts and unsettles like no other, for one night on Thursday, September 30th.
This event will go behind the scenes of The Exorcist in a way you never thought possible. Audiences will be treated to never-before-seen footage shot on the set during production to learn how many legendary scenes were created. This exclusive content shown after the event will also include special interviews with William Friedkin and Linda Blair. Don’t get cast out! Beauty and the Beast Sing-Along
September 29, 6:30pm & October 2, noon – $12.50 adults, $10 children
The magic of Beauty and the Beast – Disney’s #1 most requested title – returns to movie theaters for an exclusive two-day cinema event on September 29 at 6:30pm local time and October 2 at 12:00 pm local time! After 19 years, the movie will be released from the Disney Vault for a limited time only and will make its grand reappearance with this event. A transformation that reveals the magic, music, and majesty of the Tale as Old as Time as you’ve never experienced it before.
Prior to the feature presentation, Jordin Sparks will take audiences through an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the newly restored high definition animated classic and her all-new Beauty and the Beast music video.
Audiences will also be invited to sing along to everyone’s favorite songs – “Be Our Guest,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Belle” and “Gaston”. Only at the cinema event can you see Belle – one of Disney’s most beloved princesses – in all of her big-screen glory plus commentary from producer Don Hahn, interviews with the cast and an inside look at how the animation was created.
The Regal 18 cinema is located inside St. Louis Mills @ 5555 St. Louis Mills Blvd, 63042. For more info, call (314) 227-5503. Tickets for all three events are on sale now – at the box office and online @ Fandango.

Anyone else get to that ’72 Stones concert at Kiel? Stevie Wonder as the opening act? I was at the “matinee”, a Sunday labor day weekend afternoon show which I believe was added after the evening show sold out. It was, needless to say, grrreat…
