Knights hosting Adult Easter Egg Hunt on 4/16
Of all the holidays, Easter is my least favorite. I think it has to do with the white shoes. But there is one Easter tradition I’m absolutely nuts about, and that’s hunting for eggs!
I remember going to an Easter egg hunt at the North County Rec Complex when I was a kid, and get this…. They used real eggs! I still laugh when I think about it. I’ve never seen so many people slipping and sliding down a hillside, especially in church clothes! What a mess.
Thankfully, wiser heads have prevailed at the Knights of Columbus in Florissant, where Duchesne Council #2951 is preparing to host an adults-only Easter egg hunt this Saturday. There won’t be any real eggs at this event, but if you can find the big golden egg, you’ll win a cash prize!
Gates open at 7pm, with the hunt starting at dusk. And here’s the coolest part…. the hunting grounds are near the old St. Ferdinand Shrine. A friend of mine attended this hunt last year and she swears she saw “a shadowy, mist-like figure” behind the convent building. And no, it wasn’t the Easter Bunny. So believe what you will…
Even if you don’t catch a glimpse of something, you can still enjoy some karaoke and dancing after the egg hunt. Food and drink will also be available for purchase. Just remember to bring your own egg basket & flashlight.
Tickets are $10 each, and only 200 will be sold. To reserve yours, fill out this registration form. Ages 21 & up.
The Knights of Columbus Adult Easter Egg Hunt will be held Saturday, April 16, 7pm, at 50 rue St. Francois, 63031. Good luck!
Flo Valley kicks off Women’s History Month

March is the month to celebrate all that women have contributed and overcome in American history. Photo credit: Library of Congress
When this photo was taken 100 years ago, American women were still considered second-class citizens, with no legal right to vote. Both male and female opponents of the suffrage movement claimed that women were too emotional to cast a ballot, or that given voting rights they would neglect their duties as mothers and homemakers. Some even argued that women really had no need to vote, since it was assumed that their views were identical to their husband’s. (Yeah right!)
In this age of equality, it’s easy to forget, but the truth is, it took American women 70 years of organizing and fighting in order to win the right to vote. And when they finally triumphed in 1920 with the passage of the 19th Amendment, it was a full 52 years after the same right had been granted to black men – at least technically.
In other words, ladies deserve a month of celebration. And here it is…
In honor of Women’s History Month 2011, St. Louis Community College @ Florissant Valley has pulled together a very interesting lineup of events, and I really hope you’ll consider checking it out.
